Despite Lofty Promises, Stimulus Has Failed to Get Americans Back to Work

The American people were told earlier this year that we needed to pass a huge debt-producing stimulus package because the President promised it would keep unemployment low and actually get Americans working again. Well, what a difference six months makes.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (Mo-9) issued the following statement marking six months after President Obama signed the economic stimulus package into law:
“The American people were told earlier this year that we needed to pass a huge debt-producing stimulus package because the President promised it would keep unemployment low and actually get Americans working again. Well, what a difference six months makes. The so-called stimulus package isn’t putting people back to work and with unemployment at 9.4percent, we’re all asking: ‘Where are the jobs?’ There is one area of the so-called stimulus plan that has been very successful -- it continues to produce unprecedented levels of debt that will be paid for by our children and grandchildren.”
“I believe that many in the liberal majority in Congress have forgotten that that we work for the hard-working taxpayers who are being asked to pay for this spending spree. I remain committed to supporting real solutions for getting folks back to work and the best and fastest way to get do that is to boost our support for our small businesses. Instead of burdening small business people with higher taxes, we need to get off their backs and let them produce the jobs that Americans desperately need.”
