Washington, MO Teen Wins Top 9th District Art Piece in Annual Congressional Competition

An oil pastel by Washington, Missouri's Madeline Paige Marquart titled "Firecracker" has been selected by U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer over 18 other submissions as the 9th Congressional District winner for the Annual Congressional Art Competition.

          An oil pastel by Washington, Missouri’s Madeline Paige Marquart titled “Firecracker” has been selected by U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer over 18 other submissions as the 9th Congressional District winner for the Annual Congressional Art Competition.

Madeline, a freshman at Washington High School, will have her work displayed along with other winners from congressional districts around the country in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol. Madeline will have the opportunity to attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, June 22,to unveil all winning artwork from across the nation.

“I was impressed with the level of talent this year and it was a tough choice, but the unique artistic qualities and the Arch’s status as a worldwide symbol of Missouri combined to make Madeline’s work the top choice,” Luetkemeyer said. “I want to thank all those young people who submitted their outstanding art work. I look forward to seeing great things from them in the future.”
