Luetkemeyer's Rejection of Excessive Spending of Taxpayer Dollars Embraced During District Tour

Ninth District of Missouri, April 8, 2009
Just three days into a two-week series of meetings and events with hard-working Missourians, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer's bi-partisan decision to reject the kind of special interest spending found in the so-called stimulus package is being embraced by most 9th District residents.

Just three days into a two-week series of meetings and events with hard-working Missourians, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer’s bi-partisan decision to reject the kind of special interest spending found in the so-called stimulus package is being embraced by most 9th District residents.

After voting against the $1 trillion taxpayer-financed spending bill forced through Congress by the liberal majority, and because of his serious concerns about the nearly $4 trillion contained in the taxpayer-financed budget currently before Congress, Luetkemeyer said most people in the 9th District are tired of their money being spent unwisely.

"I am proud to tell people that I have not requested any earmarks because they understand there needs to be more transparency, accountability and fiscal restraint when it comes to spending their hard-earned dollars than there currently is in Washington, D.C,” Luetkemeyer said. “Congress has a bad habit of ignoring taxpayers by spending their hard-earned dollars without proper review, as was the case with the so-called stimulus package I voted against and is currently contained in the proposed federal budget."

Luetkemeyer is one of more than 30 colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the House who have not requested earmarks.
