Luetkemeyer Memorial Day Statement

It is hard to imagine exactly what kind of bravery and sacrifice it takes to put oneself in harm's way for your country. You can watch a movie or documentary, or talk to military veterans or active duty personnel about their experiences and get a hint of what it takes to serve; but unless you've walked in their boots, it is difficult to fully understand their experiences.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) issued the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:

“It is hard to imagine exactly what kind of bravery and sacrifice it takes to put oneself in harm’s way for your country. You can watch a movie or documentary, or talk to military veterans or active duty personnel about their experiences and get a hint of what it takes to serve; but unless you’ve walked in their boots, it is difficult to fully understand their experiences. We do our best on Memorial Day to honor these folks with a day of recognition that serves both as a reminder of what was lost and what was saved. There is no doubt that Memorial Day exists because the American spirit exists. And while some of the names of our great heroes in uniform may never be known to us, we still owe them a moment this Memorial Day to honor them for their humble service.”
