Luetkemeyer Chides Pelosi for Hurtful Immigration Comment

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today signed a letter rebuking Nancy Pelosi for insulting law enforcement officers at the Department of Homeland Security by calling their efforts to enforce our country's immigration laws passed by Congress "un-American."

Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today signed a letter rebuking Nancy Pelosi for insulting law enforcement officers at the Department of Homeland Security by calling their efforts to enforce our country’s immigration laws passed by Congress “un-American.” Luetkemeyer, along with 18 members of the House of Representatives, sent the letter in response to Pelosi’s March 14 comments during a speech in front of a group of both legal and illegal immigrants. During that speech, Pelosi called worksite enforcement and the deportation of illegal workers “un-American.” In the letter, Luetkemeyer and his fellow lawmakers called Pelosi’s comments “both cruel and hurtful” to the law enforcement officers, especially in light of her position as the Speaker of the House. “Calling the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security who have taken an oath to defend the constitution of the United States ‘un-American’ is unacceptable,” the letter said. “We assume you did not expect the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security to hear this, but they have and we recommend you apologize to them.”
