Angered by AIG Bonuses, Luetkemeyer Backs Bill to Get Taxpayer Money Returned

Angered that taxpayer money is being used for lavish bonues for AIG executives, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) backs legislation that would direct the Treasury Department to have the AIG money returned to taxpayers within two weeks.
Angered that taxpayer money is being used for lavish bonues for AIG executives, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) backs legislation that would direct the Treasury Department to have the AIG money returned to taxpayers within two weeks.

Luetkemeyer announced his support for the legislation sponsored by U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen of Minnesota and U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance of New Jersey.

“My top priority is to make sure that hard-earned taxpayer dollars are accounted for, and that is why I am extremely disappointed about news reports revealing that a last-minute provision in the so-called stimulus bill - inserted by Democrats - protected bonuses like those received by AIG executives,” said Luetkemeyer, who voted against the spending bill. “Taxpayers deserve better than this from their government, and that is why I am supporting a bill that moves quickly to return taxpayer dollars from the clutches of AIG executives.”

In voting against the so-called stimulus package, Luetkemeyer consistently maintained that one of his primary concerns was that there was a stunning lack of accountability for taxpayer dollars. He also raised concerns that there is still no plan in place to guarantee that taxpayer dollars are being used wisely.

“The AIG scandal is just the latest reason why legislation must be transparent for all Americans to see before it is recklessly signed into law,” Luetkemeyer said.
