Luetkemeyer: Senate Cap-and-Tax Legislation Just As Devastating to Families As Flawed House Bill

For Missouri families, this national energy tax contained in the Senate bill is just as devastating as the dangerously flawed bill that was rammed through the House this summer by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Following is a statement from U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) about the Senate’s version of the cap-and-tax bill:
For Missouri families, this national energy tax contained in the Senate bill is just as devastating as the dangerously flawed bill that was rammed through the House this summer by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Even though people are struggling to make ends meet, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is following in Pelosi’s footsteps by pursuing legislation that will end up costing hard-working folks more for electricity and gas, while sending American jobs ovserseas. The Senate bill demonstrates once again the Majority’s obvious disregard for the plight of American families who would have to shell out at least $1,700 a year in additional taxes to pay for this flawed approach. I will continue to fight against this oppressive tax and remain supportive of the proposed American Energy Act that will clean up the environment, lower energy costs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create millions of good-paying American jobs without a tax increase. We need to create jobs, not kill them.”
