U.S.  Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today commended the President’s decision to declare portions of Missouri including communities in the 9th District as federal disasters areas. The decision by the President makes these communnties impacted by severe weather eligible for federal disaster assistance.

Last month Luetkemeyer sent a letter to the President in support of Gov. Jay Nixon’s request to declare a major disaster in Missouri. Missouri including large portions of the 9th District had been battered by severe storms that generated high winds, hail, tornadoes, heavy rain, flooding and flash-flooding.

“Missourians are resilient when it comes to Mother Nature’s fury and are always eager to resolve the situation and get back to life as they knew it before disaster struck,” Luetkemeyer said. “Missourians have a spirit about them that helps them overcome even the greatest hardships and this disaster declaration will help them do that.”

The federal disaster declaration makes for the following counties in the 9th District eligible for Public Assistance. Those counties are: Adair, Camden, Crawford, Knox, Lewis, Maries, Marion, Miller and Shelby. Public Assistance will reimburse jurisdictions for their eligible emergency protective actions, repairs, or replacement of damaged infrastructure, and debris clearance.
The federal declaration also makes Adair County eligible for Individual Assistance, assistance to individuals and households.
