U.S.  Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) sent a letter to the President today in support of Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s request to declare a major disaster in Missouri.

Missouri including large portions of the 9th District have been battered by severe storms that generated high winds, hail, tornadoes, heavy rain, flooding and flash-flooding.
“I am writing in support of Governor Nixon’s request to declare a major disaster for the state of Missouri,” Luetkemeyer wrote in a letter to the President. “This severe storm system impacted the entire state.  In Missouri’s 9th District alone, several tornadoes struck northern Missouri on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, causing multiple deaths and millions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses, and communities in Adair and Knox Counties. In addition, torrential rain, high winds, and flooding caused damage in Camden and Crawford Counties earlier this month. The citizens of Missouri have started to rebuild and restore their communities. However, this damage will be beyond the capabilities of the state and local governments. Federal assistance is necessary in order for these communities to make a full and prompt recovery.”
The governor’s request included assistance for Adair, Camden, Crawford and Knox Counties.
