Luetkemeyer Joins Call to Expose Government Corruption Within Countrywide VIP Program

I fully support the call to issue a subpoena seeking to expose the true size and extent of the Countrywide VIP Program that was used to influence policymakers by providing favorable loan rates in return for support of policies favorable to the mortgage firm. This is not a partisan effort.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today made the following statement on Ranking Member Darrell Issa’s call to subpoena all records and documents related to the Countrywide VIP Program in which special mortgage rates were promised to lawmakers in return for political support for what was once the nation’s largest mortgage originator:

“I fully support the call to issue a subpoena seeking to expose the true size and extent of the Countrywide VIP Program that was used to influence policymakers by providing favorable loan rates in return for support of policies favorable to the mortgage firm. This is not a partisan effort. At the height of this program’s existence in 2003, Republicans controlled the House, Senate and the White House. I believe strongly that the American people demand accountability and I am urging all members of the committee to support this subpoena and help expose corruption that we know exists. It is certainly a betrayal of the American people’s trust to ignore corruption when we know for certain it existed.”
