U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today praised the many successes of the St. Charles Economic Development Center during testimony today before the Small Business Committee at a hearing focusing on national “Heroes of Small Business.”

Luetkemeyer helped introduce Greg Prestemon, President of the EDC, during the hearing in which entrepreneurs from across the country testified on their small business success stories.  The committee is examining the important role these firms play in creating jobs and growing our economy.
“The EDC has played a critical role in providing quality jobs to folks in the region and they are a fine example of how important small businesses are to growing our economy,” Luetkemeyer said. “I also want to thank Greg and his staff for their dedication to improving and expanding business opportunities in St. Charles County and beyond.”
Luetkemeyer noted that the EDC was selected by the Small Business Administration as the national “504 Lender of the Year.” Two SBA lenders are recognized annually and the EDC is sharing the 2009 honor with another certified development corporation in Seattle.

In calendar year 2008, the EDC disbursed more than $22.5 million to 37 businesses throughout Missouri with a total project value of more than $60 million that helped create or retain 1,063 jobs. Since 2000, the EDC 504 loan program has helped finance projects around the state totaling nearly $250 million while creating or retaining 5,774 jobs.
