Luetkemeyer Announces Top 9th District Art Pieces in Annual Congressional Competition

U.S. Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer today announced that Kylee Marie Sears, a 12th grader from Scotland County R-1 High School in Memphis, has been selected the 9th Congressional District winner of the Annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery.

“Kylee’s winning piece is an excellent example of the kind of artistic talents that we have right here in the 9th Congressional District and I look forward to having her artwork displayed in our nation’s Capitol for all to enjoy, ” Luetkemeyer said. “I also would like to also recognize those students who submitted such creative pieces.”
 
Kylee’s portrait of her father will join others from congressional districts around the country in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol, and she will have the opportunity to attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 24 to unveil all winning artwork from across the nation. Kylee was also awarded three round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C. from Southwest Airlines.
 
Second place went to Grant Abell, an 11th grader from Hallsville High School, for his rendition of a vintage car. Honorable mentions went to Melana Salisbury for her American flag piece, and Brittany Taylor, who drew an abstract portrait of a girl. Both Salisbury and Taylor are 11th graders from Centralia High School.
