Luetkemeyer Supports Legislation Calling for Meaningful Reforms at United Nations

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) has signed on as a supporter of the UN Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act of 2009 in an effort to leverage the United States' financial contributions to produce meaningful reforms.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) has signed on as a supporter of the UN Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act of 2009 in an effort to leverage the United States’ financial contributions to produce meaningful reforms.
“At a time when families all across our district are struggling to make ends meet, I think it is appropriate that we reconsider the amount of money our nation gives to the United Nations,” Luetkemeyer said. “The UN is in need of significant reforms and we should push for those long overdue reforms by withholding our generous support, paid for with taxpayer dollars, of the UN.”
The legislation seeks to change the current UN assessment system, which determines how much each member-nation pays, from compulsory to voluntary.  In addition, the UN Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act conditions future U.S. support for the United Nations to the implementation of important reforms at the UN, including rooting out ongoing fraud, corruption, and abuse, and preventing UN resources from being used to support foreign extremists.
