Luetkemeyer Praises $4 Billion in Spending Cuts

I proudly voted in favor of the $4 billion in spending cuts so that we can responsibly keep the government running for the next two weeks and avoid a government shutdown. This short-term measure will reduce the spending of hard-earned taxpayer dollars through terminations and reductions that the president called for in his budget request, while cutting out earmarks that had previously been funded.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today issued the following statement after the House passed a short-term continuing budget resolution:

“I proudly voted in favor of the $4 billion in spending cuts so that we can responsibly keep the government running for the next two weeks and avoid a government shutdown. This short-term measure will reduce the spending of hard-earned taxpayer dollars through terminations and reductions that the president called for in his budget request, while cutting out earmarks that had previously been funded. It is important to note that this short-term resolution comes after we passed a bill last month containing $61 billion in significant spending cuts. Both of these measures are critical steps in getting our fiscal house in order, and it is critically important that this Congress do what the previous one failed to do – complete a budget, pass funding bills in an open and transparent fashion, and reduce spending so that we can avoid future budget uncertainties. Now, like most Americans who are desperate for an end to out-of-control government spending, I am hopeful that the Senate will vote quickly on this short-term resolution and then pass the initial $61 billion in cuts so that we can continue the process of putting money back into the pockets of American families.”
