Luetkemeyer Backs $12 Billion in Spending Cuts, Provides Support for Men and Women in Uniform

By cutting $12 billion in spending now, House Republicans are honoring our commitment to hard-working American families that understand we have to slash government spending at every opportunity. However, as we work through the budget process, one issue is paramount – we must continue to support our men and women in uniform who are selflessly serving to protect our country in every way we can.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) issued the following statement after the House passed a one-week continuing budget resolution that cuts spending by $12 billion and includes full-year funding for the Defense Department:

“By cutting $12 billion in spending now, House Republicans are honoring our commitment to hard-working American families that understand we have to slash government spending at every opportunity. However, as we work through the budget process, one issue is paramount – we must continue to support our men and women in uniform who are selflessly serving to protect our country in every way we can. By extending the budget of the military for the balance of the year it gives them certainty about our support. This bill also gives us the extra time to finish up the negotiations on the budget for the rest of the year as we attempt to begin to restore fiscal discipline to the federal government.”
