Luetkemeyer Backs Cost-Cutting Budget, Saving Families $38.5 Billion

Today we took the kind of action that Americans have been demanding for years by significantly cutting the amount of money taxpayers will have to shell out for government spending through the end of the fiscal year. I am pleased that the debate in Washington is now focusing on the size and scope of government. The conservative message of less spending is now driving the debate.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today issued the following statement after voting for a 2011 budget that cuts $38.5 billion in government spending for the current fiscal year, which ends September 30:

“Today we took the kind of action that Americans have been demanding for years by significantly cutting the amount of money taxpayers will have to shell out for government spending through the end of the fiscal year. I am pleased that the debate in Washington is now focusing on the size and scope of government. The conservative message of less spending is now driving the debate. Liberals first turned their backs on spending cuts, then finally came to the table when hard-working Americans demanded action. However, more must be done, and these cuts are just the beginning. We must continue to restore fiscal and spending discipline to Washington to put our nation on a path to prosperity.”
