Luetkemeyer Joins Balanced Budget Amendment Caucus, Promotes Fiscal Accountability

Reflecting his support for fiscal accountability in Washington and the need for a balanced budget amendment at the federal level, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) has joined the Congressional Balanced Budget Amendment Caucus, which will serve as a resource for members of Congress on issues related to a balanced budget amendment.

The caucus met for the first time this afternoon.

“Hard-working Missouri families understand the importance of balancing their family budgets in order to make ends meet, and it is long overdue for Washington to live within its means by passing a balanced budget amendment and restoring fiscal accountability to the way we spend taxpayer dollars,” Luetkemeyer said. “This new caucus will promote a culture of fiscal accountability and continue to push for an amendment to the Constitution that would ensure we don’t spend more money than we take in. As a former state lawmaker, I know that a balanced budget works in Missouri, and that same concept should be applied to the federal government as well.”

Luetkemeyer is one of the original cosponsors of a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The federal balanced budget amendment supported by the new caucus would require that Congress not spend more than it receives in revenues, would require the president to submit a balanced budget to Congress and would require a 3/5 majority to increase the debt limit.
