Luetkemeyer Praises "Freeze and Cut" Proposal

While our small business owners have always provided the spark for economic growth and job creation, they are now fearful to make investments and hire new people thanks to a litany of government regulations that have shut the door on innovation and job creation. Under Leader Boehner's bold proposal to freeze tax rates and cut spending, our hard-working small business owners will have the stability and a sense of certainty they need to grow.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) released the following statement in support of House Republican Leader John Boehner’s proposal to freeze all current tax rates for two years and cut government spending to 2008 levels:

“While our small business owners have always provided the spark for economic growth and job creation, they are now fearful to make investments and hire new people thanks to a litany of government regulations that have shut the door on innovation and job creation. Under Leader Boehner’s bold proposal to freeze tax rates and cut spending, our hard-working small business owners will have the stability and a sense of certainty they need to grow. The last thing these folks need or want right now is to be force-fed multi-billion-dollar tax hikes, billion-dollar bailouts and another round of stimulus spending.”

Boehner has proposed that Congress do two things this month on a bipartisan basis to address the challenges facing our nation’s small business owners and help our economy get back to creating jobs. The first thing is Congress should pass a bill that cuts government spending for the next year back to 2008 levels, the last year before the bailouts, takeovers and stimulus spending bills. The second thing is a two-year freeze on all current tax rates, stopping the coming tax hikes so small businesses can have some certainty about what is coming down the pike.
