Luetkemeyer Votes to Halt Wasting Taxpayer Dollars Touting So-Called Stimulus Projects

Reflecting the wishes of the American people through the website YouCut, U.S. Rep. Reflecting the wishes of the American people through the website YouCut, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today voted in favor of a measure to save hard-working Americans millions of dollars by halting spending on signs promoting stimulus projects, requiring the government to report how much already has been spent on these signs and ultimately paying taxpayers back for the useless signs.

The stimulus-touting signs have been erected across the country to alert taxpayers that certain projects are being funded by last year’s failed economic stimulus bill even though they provide no meaningful information and create no jobs. Unfortunately, no accurate information exists on the total number of signs erected and their exact cost to taxpayers.

“Instead of creating the jobs that were promised from the stimulus, this government is throwing away people’s hard-earned tax dollars on signs touting stimulus projects. Like the majority of Americans, I opposed this stimulus bill, and this latest spending debacle is further evidence that the stimulus was a failure,” Luetkemeyer said after voting for the measure prompted by Americans logging in to the YouCut website. “Clearly, the YouCut website has given our families an important voice in choosing what they want to see cut.”

On the YouCut website each week, Americans have the opportunity to vote on a spending cut and shortly after all the ideas are processed, Luetkemeyer and his colleagues will seek a vote on the most popular spending cut. Luetkemeyer is encouraging folks to visit http://republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut/and help Washington get government spending under control.
