Luetkemeyer: Saving Starts with Congress, Supports Cutting House Operating Budget by $35 Million

In an effort to show hard-working Missourians that he is serious about cutting government spending immediately, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) plans to vote on Thursday in favor of a measure to cut the individual budgets of lawmakers' offices by five percent while reducing the operating budgets of House committees and leadership offices by the same amount.

In an effort to show hard-working Missourians that he is serious about cutting government spending immediately, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) plans to vote on Thursday in favor of a measure to cut the individual budgets of lawmakers’ offices by five percent while reducing the operating budgets of House committees and leadership offices by the same amount.

The cost-cutting resolution being offered Thursday by U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) will immediately save taxpayers $35 million.

“Missouri families and businesses have had to tighten their belts and so should the federal government, including Congress.  As elected representatives of the people, we must lead by example with the kind of humility and honesty that our constituents expect, and this measure is definitely a step in the right direction to restore the people’s faith in government,” Luetkemeyer said. “This is just a first step in reducing spending, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to further reduce federal spending in the 112th Congress.”
