Luetkemeyer Appointed to Powerful House Financial Services Committee in Next Congress

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today announced that the Republican Steering Committee has named him to the House Financial Services Committee for the 112th Congress that begins next month.

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today announced that the Republican Steering Committee has named him to the House Financial Services Committee for the 112th Congress that begins next month.

“Serving on this committee will help me better address the number one concern of my constituents, which is the direction of our economy.  It is clear that hard-working people of Main Street Missouri cannot afford any more failed bailouts and failed stimulus packages if we are to expand economic opportunities,” Luetkemeyer said.

“I am extremely pleased to have Blaine Luetkemeyer on the committee because of his experience and knowledge of the important issues that face our committee. I look forward to working with Blaine to enact policies that will support private sector job growth,” said U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus of Alabama, the incoming chairman of the Financial Services Committee.

The House Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over the nation’s financial services and housing sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, securities, and domestic and international monetary policy. The committee is responsible for reviewing the laws and programs of the Federal Reserve Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, among other federal government agencies.

Luetkemeyer has a wide ranging background in the financial services sector, including stints as a bank examiner, community banker, insurance agent, and chairman of the Financial Services Committee in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2003 to 2005.
