Luetkemeyer Announces Disaster Assistance from Agriculture Department for 9th District Farmers

Small farmer and House Agriculture Committee member U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) announced farmers in seven counties in the 9th District of Missouri are eligible for assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture due to losses caused by excessive rainfall, flash flooding, flooding and high winds that occurred between February 1 through July 15.

The counties eligible to be considered for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE) are: Knox, Lewis, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Randolph and Shelby.

“I appreciate the Agriculture Department for making this assistance available to farm families in our district so they can continue to help feed and fuel our nation,” Luetkemeyer said. “It is my hope that this assistance will help them recover as quickly as possible.”

On July 30th, Luetkemeyer, and U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt, U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson and U.S. Rep. Sam Graves sent a letter to the president in support of Governor Jay Nixon’s request for a federal disaster declaration for Missouri.

Regarding emergency loans, FSA will consider each application on its own merit by taking into account the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.  Local FSA offices can provide affected farmers and ranchers with additional information.
