Wanted: The best young artists in the 9th Congressional District.

That’s the call going out from U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) who is seeking high school students ready to show off their talents in the Annual Congressional Art Competition. Letters to art teachers throughout the District were sent to high schools last week.

“I am honored to once again recognize the artistic talents in Missouri’s 9th Congressional District,” Luetkemeyer said. “This annual art competition provides a great venue for budding artists to display their work and I encourage all interested students to participate in this year’s competition.”

The winning entry from the 9th District will not only be recognized in the local competition, but will also be displayed in Washington, D.C. The winning art piece will join other art pieces from congressional districts around the country in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol. The 9th District’s winning student will attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 17 to unveil the winning artwork from around the nation. The winner is also awarded two round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C.

All entries must be delivered to Luetkemeyer’s Columbia District Office located at 3610 Buttonwood Drive, Suite 200, Columbia, Mo. 65201, by 5 p.m. on April 16. The winning art piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol and all honorable mentions will be displayed in Luetkemeyer’s congressional offices.
