Luetkemeyer Says Hard-Working Families Cannot Afford Increase in Government Debt, Votes Against Measure

It is extremely troubling to me that while hard-working Americans continue to cut back on their spending during these tough economic times, the Majority in Congress has decided to force an additional $1.9 trillion worth of debt on our families, which translates into a total of $121,982 worth of debt per household.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today issued the following statement after voting against a massive $1.9 trillion increase in the amount of debt the government can take on:
“It is extremely troubling to me that while hard-working Americans continue to cut back on their spending during these tough economic times, the Majority in Congress has decided to force an additional $1.9 trillion worth of debt on our families, which translates into a total of $121,982 worth of debt per household.  By continuing to spend trillions of dollars more than we take in, this Administration is placing a burden on future generations that we may never be able to repay. The federal government should live within its means, just like Missouri families and businesses have to do every day.”
