In light of new threats allegedly from Osama Bin Laden, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) announced his support for legislation that will prevent released Guantanamo Bay detainees from relocating to nations recognized as terrorist safe havens or state sponsors of terrorism.

The legislation, H.R. 4464 known as the Prevent Terrorists from Reuniting with Terrorist Cells Act, would specifically prohibit the release or transfer of an individual detained at Guantanamo Bay to the custody of any country or region recognized by the State Department or Department of Defense as a haven for terrorist activity or that has been classified as a state sponsor of terrorism.

“This legislation is a serious attempt to keep those who would do harm to our country from rejoining with terrorist cells and training programs whose sole purpose is to kill Americans,” Luetkemeyer said.

Luetkemeyer also is a supporter of H.R.2294, the Keep Terrorists Out of America Act,that will ensure the terrorists held in the Guantanamo Bay prison are not imported into the United States and makes clear that governors and state legislators must pre-approve the transfer or release of any terrorist detainee into their respective states. It also requires the President to meet strict criteria and certification standards before any individual detained at the Guantanamo prison could be brought to the United States.
