Luetkemeyer Backs Effort to Bring Sunlight to Health Care Negotiations

U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today is backing congressional efforts requiring public access to health care negotiations currently being held in secret in an attempt to impose a budget-busting national health care system on hard-working Americans.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today is backing congressional efforts requiring public access to health care negotiations currently being held in secret in an attempt to impose a budget-busting national health care system on hard-working Americans.

Luetkemeyer is a cosponsor and signed a discharge petition on H Res 847, known as the “Sunshine Resolution,” which would require public access to negotiations on the health care takeover billbeing crafted behind closed doors by the Majority.

“I am proud to support this effort to ensure that openness and transparency is brought into the health care reform debate because people have a right to have their voices heard and deserve to know what their elected leaders are discussing behind closed doors,” Luetkemeyer said. “I remain committed to standing by the many hard-working people in the 9th District in support of an open legislative process, and will continue to fight for advancing common sense health care reform proposal that lowers costs without launching a government takeover.”

The measure being supported by Luetkemeyer is being spearheaded by Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida.

“For weeks the Majority has been meeting behind closed doors to discuss their latest plan for a government takeover of health care and the only thing we know about their secret negotiations is that the American people have been denied a seat at the table,” Luetkemeyer said. “Negotiations about legislation that would impact one-sixth of our economy should not be hidden from the people whose tax dollars would end up paying for it.”
