Luetkemeyer Stresses Importance of National Day of Prayer

Our great country stands as a shining example for all freedom-loving people and nations throughout the world because of the liberties we enjoy, including the religious freedom to peacefully assemble and pray. The National Day of Prayer is a great way for people of all faiths and traditions to come together and give thanks for living in a country where we can pray and worship freely and openly.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) issued the following statement in observance of the National Day of Prayer:
“Our great country stands as a shining example for all freedom-loving people and nations throughout the world because of the liberties we enjoy, including the religious freedom to peacefully assemble and pray. The National Day of Prayer is a great way for people of all faiths and traditions to come together and give thanks for living in a country where we can pray and worship freely and openly.”
The National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 through a joint resolution proposed by Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The National Day of Prayer is observed on the first Thursday in May.
Luetkemeyer is a proud co-sponsor of H.Res. 1279 that encourages Attorney General Holder to appeal U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb’s ruling that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional. The resolution also reaffirms the continued support of the U.S. House for the National Day of Prayer.
