Wanted: The best young artists in the 9th Congressional District.

That’s the call going out from U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) who is seeking high school students ready to show off their talents in the Annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. Letters to art teachers throughout the District were sent to high schools yesterday and this release and rules of the contest will also be posted on Luetkemeyer’s Facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/people/Blaine-Luetkemeyer/1358702716.
“This competition provides an excellent opportunity to encourage and to recognize the artistic talents of Missouri’s youth and I am actively encouraging students to participate in this worthwhile program,” Luetkemeyer said. “It’s my hope that we’ll find the next budding Rembrandt or Da Vinci among the entrants.”

The winning entry from the 9th District will not only be recognized in the local competition, but will also be displayed in Washington, D.C. The winning art piece will join other art pieces from congressional districts around the country in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol. The 9th District’s winning student will attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 24 to unveil the winning artwork from around the nation. The winner is also awarded three round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C.

All entries must be delivered to Luetkemeyer’s Columbia District Office located at 3610 Buttonwood Drive, Suite 200, Columbia, Mo. 65201, by 5 p.m. on April 17. A reception will be held for all artwork participants at 4 p.m. on April 20 in the Columbia District Office to announce the winner and honorable mentions. Honorable mentions will be displayed in Luetkemeyer’s congressional offices.
