Luetkemeyer Says Common Sense Approach is Needed to Reduce Health Care Costs

It is my hope that tonight's address marks the beginning of a truly bi-partisan effort to reform health care.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today issued the following statement regarding the President’s address to a joint session of Congress on health care:
“It is my hope that tonight’s address marks the beginning of a truly bi-partisan effort to reform health care.

“To be clear, I will not support any legislation that could lead to the government taking over your health care and interfering in very personal decisions that you make with your doctor. If August taught us anything, it is that people want health care reform that reduces costs but do not want the long arm of government dictating their health care choices.

“I have consistently favored a common sense approach to reducing the skyrocketing costs of health care. As the health care debate moves forward, I will continue to support measures that will lower health care costs without undermining quality of care, such as abusive lawsuit reform, making it easier for Americans to transfer health insurance from one job to another, allowing dependents to remain on their parents’ health policies up to the age of 25, enhancing health care tax credits to ensure greater and more affordable access to health care, and allowing small businesses to pool together and increase their purchasing power so that they can provide health benefits to their employees at the same prices that are available to larger corporations.”
