In an effort to improve the quality of life for our veterans, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) today supported the passage of four key pieces of legislation to make cost-of-living adjustments for veterans benefits, enhance information regarding scholarships for veterans and their families, address health care concerns for women veterans, and ensure funding for veterans health care programs.
“Our nation’s veterans have made tremendous sacrifices to defend our country and protect our freedoms, and without them we would not have the rights and privileges that we take for granted as Americans, which is why I supported these bills,” Luetkemeyer said. “I will always stand up for our nation’s veterans.”
Luetkemeyer supported the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2009 (S. 407), which directs the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs to increase the rates of veterans’ disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, the clothing allowance for certain disabled adult children, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children; and HR 1172 that directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide information on the department’s website that directs veterans to organizations that provide scholarships to veterans and their families.
Luetkemeyer also supported the Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act (HR 1211), which will improve VA health care services for the more than 1.7 million women veterans; and the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009 (HR 1016), which seeks to more effectively and efficiently plan and manage health care funding by authorizing advance appropriations for veterans’ health care programs, a major priority for Veterans Service Organizations.
