Given the risk to Americans traveling internationally in many parts of the world, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) is advising constitiuents to visit a U.S. Department of State website that provides travel warnings and other resources.

The website, www.travel.state.gov, offers regular travel warnings recommending that Americans avoid or consider avoiding certain nations when long-term, protracted conditions make a country dangerous or unstable. A travel warning is also issued when the U.S. Government's ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff.

The website also provides tips for traveling and living abroad as well as resources in case of emergencies or crises including the location of embassies in foreign countries and various passport and visa requirements.

“It is critical that Americans traveling abroad are aware of potential dangers that exist in certain parts of the world and the State Department website is an excellent resource,” Luetkemeyer said. “I wholeheartedly recommend that Americans planning trips overseas visit this website well in advance of their travels."
