U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) today issued the following statement regarding the latest report in which the U.S. State Department provided no major environmental objections to the Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada: “The time for the president to stop dragging his feet has come, and I urge him to use his famous pen to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline that will create thousands of new jobs, provide new economic opportunities and free our country from its dependence on hostile nations for our energy supply. After five years of delays and political doubletalk aimed at appeasing environmental special interests, the president should follow his own advice and begin taking action on issues like the Keystone Pipeline that will help improve the quality of life for all Americans.” Last May, Luetkemeyer voted for legislation that would clear the roadblocks that are preventing construction of the pipeline that would originate in Canada, a friend and our largest trading partner. During the 112th Congress, Luetkemeyer voted six times for construction of the pipeline. In each case, the U.S. Senate never acted on the legislation. |
