U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement after H.R. 690, the Providing Accountability through Transparency Act passed the House of Representatives.

“This legislation, the Providing Accountability through Transparency Act, is a straightforward; common-sense piece of legislation and I am pleased that it was one of the first bills to pass the House in 2016. My bill simply requires government agencies to create a short, plain language summary and a web link to make proposed rules more accessible and easier to understand for all Americans. Most proposed rules out of the administration are convoluted and long-winded. My bill will ensure that proposed rules are accompanied with a shortened statement, of no more than 100 words, so that Americans know exactly what a proposed rule will do.”

H.R. 690 was included in a package of legislation designed to enhance transparency and reduce overreach of federal agency regulations. The legislation has been sent to the Senate for consideration.
