Luetkemeyer Questions Education Secretary About Restroom Guidelines

Following the recent release of guidance from the Departments of Education and Justice on public school policies pertaining to transgender students, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) held a conference call with Department of Education Secretary John King.

Following the recent release of guidance from the Departments of Education and Justice on public school policies pertaining to transgender students, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) held a conference call with Department of Education Secretary John King.

“In recent days, constituents from across Missouri’s 3rd District have contacted my office to express their opposition to the recent guidance issued by the Education and Justice Departments regarding access to restrooms,” Luetkemeyer said. “The threat to withhold funds for non-compliance with suggested guidelines is extortion. Several states have already called the Administration out on this threat as it should not be tolerated. I expressed to Secretary King that parents, educators, and local school boards should be responsible for making decisions on access to restrooms, not unelected bureaucrats in Washington. The Obama Administration is overstepping its authorities in pursuit of a political agenda at the expense of states, local school boards, and the American people.”
