Luetkemeyer Supports Bill to Ensure Congress Can Stop Midnight Regulations

In an effort to reduce extreme, last minute regulations, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) voted in support of H.R. 5982, the Midnight Rules Relief Act.

In an effort to reduce extreme, last minute regulations, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) voted in support of H.R. 5982, the Midnight Rules Relief Act.

“For the last eight years, the current administration has issued a total of 43 major regulations that total more than $100 billion in cost,” Luetkemeyer said. “That means we have every reason to believe that in the last few days of the president’s term, our nation’s small businesses could expect to see an avalanche of additional regulations. Today’s bill ensures that any onerous regulations pushed through in the middle of the night can be repealed in a timely and efficient manner in order to ease the regulatory burden. As our country moves forward under new leadership, this legislation allows Congress to swiftly eliminate costly burdens and immediately begin work to stimulate the economy and grow jobs that are no longer stymied by Washington red tape.”

H.R. 5982 permits a new Congress to use the procedures under the Congressional Review Act to disapprove, as a group, multiple regulations issued by a president in his final year of office, rather than just a single regulation at a time for rules issued during the final 60 days of the previous Congress.
