Luetkemeyer Votes to Ensure Congress Can Stop Midnight Regulations

For the first legislative vote of the 115th Congress, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) voted in support of H.R. 21, the Midnight Rules Relief Act.

For the first legislative vote of the 115th Congress, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) voted in support of H.R. 21, the Midnight Rules Relief Act.

“At the end of 2016, the Federal Register reached over 97,000 pages amid a flurry of last minute “midnight” rules and regulations released by the outgoing Administration,” Luetkemeyer said. “Today’s vote ensures that any regulations pushed through as the Obama Administration goes out the door can be repealed in a timely manner. I look forward to this bill moving quickly in the Senate and being enacted into law by the incoming Administration.”

H.R. 21 amends the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to allow Congress to disapprove multiple midnight rules in one CRA resolution when the regulations have been submitted by federal agencies within the last 60 days of a Congressional session during the last year of a presidential administration.

Luetkemeyer voted in support of this legislation in the 114th Congress.
