Today, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) and the House of Representatives took the first step in repealing and replacing the health-care law by passing the American Health Care Act.

“Obamacare cannot be fixed, but our nation’s health-care can,” Luetkemeyer said. “The American Health Care Act came together in an effort to give all Americans more choices, more control, and more affordable health-care. The American Health Care Act will deliver better long-term results and, during the interim, there will be an effective transition. After seven years of a law that saw premiums rise and individuals lose doctors that they liked, it is past time to repeal and replace this failing law with one that brings down costs, is personalized, and works for everyone.”

The following provisions are highlights of the American Health Care Act:

-Prohibits denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions
-Allows children to stay on their parents’ health-care plans until age 26
-Ends the individual mandate
-Blocks federal funds from going to abortion providers
-Returns power to the states with the biggest entitlement reform in a generation
-Provides tax relief by getting rid of Obamacare’s taxes, such as the Medical Device Tax
-Nearly doubles the amount of money individuals can contribute to Health Savings Accounts
