U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) is encouraging high school students in the 3rd Congressional District to consider applying to our nation’s military academies.

“I would like to encourage the many outstanding young men and women throughout the 3rd District to learn about the military academy admissions process. It’s an opportunity to gain a strong college education and to serve our country,” Luetkemeyer said. “For those selected from the competitive field of qualified students from across the country, it’s a positive, life-changing experience.”

The four United States service academies accepting Congressional nominations are West Point in New York (Army), the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland (Navy and Marine Corps), the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado (Air Force), and the Merchant Marine Academy in New York (Merchant Marine). The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not accept Congressional nominations, but Luetkemeyer’s office can provide information about it.

The acceptance process includes a formal application and interview to a panel of community volunteers from the district that have been selected by Luetkemeyer. Nominations are forwarded to the respective academies which notify students if they have been accepted.

Students can contact Luetkemeyer’s Jefferson City office for information about the academy process. The phone number is 573-635-7232.
