House Democrats Reaffirm Commitment to an Unaccountable and Partisan CFPB

Yesterday Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions, voted against H.R. 1500, misleadingly named the Consumers First Act. Congressman Luetkemeyer released the following statement:

“The American people deserve a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that promotes transparency, legitimacy, and great consumer choice. Unfortunately, this legislation accomplishes exactly none of these goals,” said Congressman Luetkemeyer. “We can all agree the Bureau needs significant reforms, however this legislation simply cherry-picks specific actions of former Acting Director Mulvaney and seeks to undo them. Once again my colleagues across the aisle are more concerned with who is leading the CFPB than how successfully the Bureau is able to meet its mission to protect consumers.”
