Luetkemeyer and the Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis Hold Briefing on Unemployment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today in a briefing entitled “The Unemployment Pandemic:  Addressing America’s Jobs Crisis” in the Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) delivered the following remarks to the committee and witnesses.

“[S]tudies… have found that for every $17 million Americans lose in collective income, we lose an American life. That translates to 65,000 American lives lost each month due to the economic shutdown. Roughly, that’s 50% more lives lost than due to the coronavirus. It’s important we look at the whole health care picture and how many Americans have also been impacted by the forced shutdown of businesses across the country.”
