WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s consideration of Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization. This case will decide the constitutionality of a 2018 law passed in the state of Mississippi that would limit abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, except to save the life and preserve the physical health of the mother, or in cases of severe fetal abnormality. It is a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade and its outcome has the potential to be the biggest win in the fight for the unborn since 1973. “It is long-past time the Supreme Court reconsider the tragic Roe v. Wade decision. That case was heard almost 50 years ago, and in that time modern medicine has very clearly proven what pro-life America has been saying all along: an unborn baby is a human life. At just 5 weeks, babies have heartbeats, their blood vessels are forming, and their brains and spinal cords have begun to develop. And at 15 weeks - the stage in pregnancy that spurred this important case - babies have fully developed hearts, noses, lips, can make facial expressions, yawn, hiccup, and feel pain,” said Luetkemeyer. “I pray that these proceedings are another meaningful step toward protecting our most vulnerable population: the unborn.” |
