The vice president of Eldon-based Paul’s Supermarket will testify tomorrow before the House Small Business Subcommittee on Health and Technology at a hearing titled "The Effects of the Health Law's Definition of Full-Time Employee on Small Businesses," Committee Vice Chairman U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) announced today.

Steven Hermann, the grandson of Paul’s Supermarket Founder Paul Hermann, will testify before the subcommittee on the impact of Obamacare on the family-owned business. Specifically, Hermann will discuss the increased costs and fewer employee hours associated with the implementation of Obamacare, which requires businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health-care coverage or pay a penalty. To make the government mandate even more cumbersome and intrusive, for the first-time ever, a full-time employee is considered one that works 30 hours per week.

“The story of the Hermann family and their success in Eldon and the Lake Area are well known and unfortunately the federal government is trying to constrain that success rather than stay out of its way so it can expand and increase its employment.,” Luetkemeyer said. “I look forward to Mr. Hermann’s testimony so that lawmakers from both sides of the aisle can hear first-hand what Obamacare means for small businesses like Paul’s Supermarket.”

Paul’s Supermarket was founded in 1968 and has expanded to three stores employing nearly 200 full-time and part-time employees in Eldon, Osage Beach, and Lake Ozark.  The hearing will be held at noon Central in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

NOTE: A copy of Hermann’s prepared testimony and video from the hearing are expected to be available after the hearing’s completion.
